Journeys
A Safe Place to Learn About and Explore Judaism for Interfaith Couples, Families or Jewish/Non-Jewish Singles. "Journeys" is tailored for singles, families, or couples in which one partner is Jewish, or may have Jewish background, and one partner is not.

"Journeys" invites you to explore the spiritual framework of Conservative Judaism in the classroom, in the sanctuary, and to observe Shabbat in a Jewish home setting.

Classes will meet in January, February and March to learn about Jewish beliefs, life-cycle events, holidays, culture, and how a Jewish life may be led.

There will be two Shabbat services and one Shabbat dinner.

Holidays@Home
Holidays@Home is a fun workshop series aimed at helping families bring Jewish holidays into their homes in a meaningful way.

Shabbat Workshop
Tuesday, January 24
Because Shabbat comes every week of the year, it can be a very special time for families. In the Shabbat workshop, the group will make challah, go through a Shabbat "seder" that you can build on, and learn songs and zmirot.

Passover
Tuesday, March 21
Creative ways to enhance your seder for both adults and children. Songs, making charosets, recipe exchange.

Shavuot
Tuesday, May 16
Make and eat blintzes. Experience a mini-tikkun (learning for the sake of learning).

Introduction to Reading Hebrew Prayers 1
This class is geared for students who want to become more connected with Hebrew prayers used in the synagogue service, and who already know the Hebrew alphabet or can easily review it.

Introduction to Hebrew Prayers 2
Intermediate Class
This class builds upon the skills learned in Reading Hebrew Prayers 1.
Students should be able to read Hebrew phrases.
After mastering basic reading skills, the class will proceed to vocabulary-building, mastering basic grammatical concepts and understanding the syntax of familiar prayers.

The Rabbinic Texts
An introduction to Mishnah, Talmud, Midrash and Rashi , and what role these works can play in our lives.
One entire session will also be devoted to studying Kabalah.

Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah Class
This class is for adults who have not gone through a Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony. Cantor Caitlin Bromberg will facilitate your becoming a Bat/Bar Mitzvah by helping you master the Shabbat Service and the Haftarah reading.
Familiarity with reading Hebrew desired.

Students interested in this class will meet with Cantor Bromberg on Sunday, January 29 at 12:30 pm for an assessment and to decide on dates and whether individual lessons or a class setting is preferred.

Kitchen 101
What is Kosher . and How to Do It.
Learn your way around the synagogue's meat and dairy kitchens.

Session 1: students will learn about the "what and why" of Kashrut (Kosher laws), Kosher labeling and sources.

Session 2: focus on the dairy and meat kitchen equipment.

Session 3: students will share in the preparation and enjoyment of a meal for which they have shopped for all the ingredients.

Art Studio
A hands-on class of 3 mini-sessions on the peculiarly Jewish crafts of metal work (copper repousse), Hebrew calligraphy and paper-cutting.

A Taste of Yiddish 1
Exclamations, proverbs, sayings, idioms, curses, music, etc.
Learn what they mean, when to use them, and the way to pronounce them.
No Hebrew/Yiddish knowledge required.
