Many people ask if there are kosher restaurants in Albuquerque, and where you can find kosher food.
In short, there are no kosher restaurants in Albuquerque or Santa Fe. However, you can get kosher food locally with careful shopping.
Trader Joe’s in Santa Fe and two locations in Albuquerque sometimes has kosher meat–but not always. You can buy kosher meat at the Chabad shul on San Pedro in Albuquerque, or at Chabad and Kol BeRamah in Santa Fe. Many people order their meat in bulk from out-of-state. Walmart always has gefilte fish (expensive), matza that isn’t kosher for Passover, and kosher soup mixes, matza ball mix, couscous, borsht, crackers, juice and Bamba snacks.
Outside of that, you can buy fish and that staple, Hebrew National hot dogs. They are available at Walmart and most supermarkets.
Kosher cookies and crackers are available at most supermarkets, Walmart, Trader Joes and health food stores.
Kosher hummus, couscous, matza, pitas and other Mideast style food is available at Walmart, Trader Joes and Smith’s. Trader Joes carries several types of Israeli wine. Walmart carries Mogen David wine.
Kosher cheese and bread are hard to find in Albuquerque. There is a bakery which has bagels and challah which are considered kosher at Congregation B’nai Israel. Ask Rabbi Flicker about that.
“Gourmet to Go” can also supply Challah and catered kosher meals. They cook in B’nai Israel’s kitchens.
For Pesach, several stores order kosher for Passover foods: Smith’s, Trader Joes and Wild Oats all order matzas, gefilte fish, cookies, mixes, matza meal, etc before Passover.
