Rabbi: Arthur Flicker
Rabbi Flicker was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. A graduate of Northwestern University, with an MA in Jewish History from the Ohio State University, Rabbi Flicker was ordained by Rabbi Rueben Luckens in 1990.
Prior to coming to Congregation B'nai Israel, Rabbi Flicker served congregations in Tyler, Texas; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Columbus, Ohio. He always been active in community affairs, having been awarded the Martin Luther King, Jr. Spirit Award by the Cincinnati Baptist Ministers Conference.
In Albuquerque, Rabbi Flicker has served on the board of the Samaritan Council, the Public Safety Partnership, the Governor’s Homeland Security Religious Advisory Taskforce and as a Chaplain for the Albuquerque Police Department.
A former public school teacher and coach, business owner and synagogue administrator, Rabbi Flicker brings a unique collection of skills to the rabbinate. Partnering with volunteers within the congregation, Rabbi Flicker has brought diverse services and programming to our community. He has also encourage the participation of members of all ages in our religious services.
Rabbi Flicker is married to Linda. They are blessed with two sons, Aaron and Ben.
Board of Trustees
Meetings of the Congregation B'nai Israel Board of Trustees are open to all members in good standing. Board of Trustees meetings take place regularly on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm. The meetings take place in the Social Hall, and generally last about one hour.
Co-President: Bill Hochheiser
Congregation B'nai Israel's Co-President Bill Hochheiser is from Connecticut. Furthermore (via LinkedIn), Bill is an environmental scientist specializing in technical, environmental, and regulatory issues related to all facets of energy development. He has over 35 years of diverse experience that includes work in government and consulting. His work has primarily involved research and analysis on the potential environmental impacts of oil and gas development, including impacts to surface water, ground water, air, land, and wildlife.
Co-President: Robert Lewis
Congregation B'nai Israel's Co-President Robert Lewis was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Englewood, NJ. Robert is a mariage, family, and child therapist who works with the Second Judicial District Court in Albuquerque as a clinician / mediator. Robert serves as Chairperson of the Ritual Committee, and is a member of the Long Range Planning and Programming and Event Planning Committees. Robert has also served as President of the Men's Club.

President Elect: Holly Shipp Buchanan
Congregation B'nai Israel's President Elect Holly Buchanan works at the University of New Mexico.
Past President: Harvey Buchalter
Congregation B'nai Israel's Past President Harvey Buchalter was born and raised in the Bronx. A former Albuquerque Public School teacher, he is a native Yiddish speaker and active Yiddish translator. Harvey is also an established runner and sculptor with a strong Albuquerque following.

Office Manager (Temporary): Shurette Neuman
Shurette Neuman has joined us as Office Manager (on a temporary basis).
Her hours are 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Vice President Tobias Flatow will serve as her supervisor.
Shurette has extensive HR experience from working at Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories, as well as office experience working with a small business.
Alan Chodorow will continue to work in the office for a while to help with the transition.

We greatly appreciate the volunteers who selflessly give their time to help in the office. At times, our volunteers must take care of personal matters and are not available to help when scheduled.
